NY 23, PA 12, and Counting

Tim Burns lost last night in a race he clearly should have won. He was the better candidate, with a better message, on a night that voters in other elections clearly voted in favor of change.

Tim Burns lost for the same reason that Doug Hoffman lost in New York several months ago in a similar special election. A split GOP Conservative ticket!

I wrote in March (view earlier blog post) that Bill Russell would be the reason that Tim Burns might lose. Even after the GOP endorsed Tim Burns, Russell would not back down and made Tim Burns run two races at the same time. One within his own party, and the other against the democratic machine.

In a district represented by iconic John Murtha for over twenty years, in a district where democrats outnumber Republicans two to one, Tim Burns clearly needed every vote possible to win against Murtha's replacement Mark Critz.

But Tim burns did not receive every vote possible because Bill Russell's supporters were mad that Tim Burns should not have received the nod from the GOP. So, Bill Russell acted like a small child and "took his ball and went home" and the other children could not play anymore because there was no ball left to play with.

Unpatriotic, that is what I call Bill Russell. If he would have lost graciously and supported Tim Burns then Pennsylvania's 12th District would have an "R" instead of a "D" next to its representative's name this morning.

The more the Republicans split their voters; the more seats the Democrats will hold on to this November. NY 23, PA 12, and counting.

We need losers to be patriotic and allow the party to unite if we are to win in November. What we do not need is for losers to allow their ego to split the party and allow the country to go down in defeat one election at a time.

Tim Burns did the rest of the country a favor by losing. I heard Tim say several times that the greatest lessons are learned in defeat. God willing there are some would be candidates that have learned that the future of our country is more important than their egos.
